
(KILR)—Clean-up is underway after a line of severe thunderstorms moved across northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota Sunday evening causing widespread damage and power outages. Tornado and severe thunderstorms warnings were issued for all counties in the KILR listening area. Several hundred homes and businesses lost power during the storm. More than 165 customers of Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative remained without power as of 11:00 this morning.
High winds caused widespread tree damage and some street flooding in the Estherville area. A tree fell across the road on North 14th St. striking a pickup truck. An uprooted tree caused damage to Deer Creek Apartment building. An 82 mph wind gust was reported at the Estherville Airport. Emmet County Emergency Management Director Travis Sheridan says there was widespread damage throughout the county.
Sheridan says several tornadoes were spotted in Emmet County during the storm,
He says most of the damage was done by straight line winds.
Sheridan says no injuries were reported.
Due to Sunday night’s storm, the City of Estherville will be picking up branches and tree debris beginning today(Monday). Officials say you should place your branches at the curb. Do not place any branches on or near the utility boxes.
