Tagged Fish Caught in Extended Walleye Weekend Contest

(Arnolds Park)--A Cedar Rapids man is more than $5,000 richer after catching a specially tagged Walleye in the extended Walleye Weekend contest in the Iowa Great Lakes. Morgan Strauss with the Iowa Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce says the tagged walleye was caught on Friday morning.

Strauss says eight specially tagged walleye remain in the Iowa Great Lakes and there are still two prizes up for grabs.

Anglers still have until August 31st to catch a prize walleye. During Walleye Weekend on May 1st and 2nd, two tagged fish were caught and turned in, but neither counted for the top prize. One fish was from the 2025 season, and the other tagged fish was not turned in alive, which is a requirement for the tournament.
