National Weather Service Confirms Several Tornadoes in KILR Listening Area

(KILR)--The National Weather Service has confirmed that more than a half dozen tornadoes touched down in the KILR listening area during the severe weather event on Sunday, May 18th .

 

Tornadoes rated EF-1 touched down near Mallard and Lone Rock. Tornadoes rated EF-0 touched down in Graettinger, Emmetsburg and Whittemore.

 

Tornadoes of unknown magnitude were confirmed near Royal in Clay County and Terril in Dickinson County.

 

The National Weather Service says most of the damage around the area on Sunday was caused by straight line winds. Wind gusts of 60 to 80 mph were reported during the storm with a peak wind gust of 82 mph at the Estherville Airport.
