Spirit Lake School Board Advances $69.9 Million Bond Referendum

(Spirit Lake)--Meeting in special session Monday, the Spirit Lake School Board voted 5-0 to place a $69.9 million bond referendum on the November 3rd ballot.

The board accepted a petition with 370 signatures, more than double the 150 signatures required to put the issue before voters.

If approved, the bond would fund improvements at Spirit Lake schools, including HVAC, electrical and roof along with new classrooms and athletic field improvements.

The district estimates the proposal would increase the property tax levy by about $2.32 per thousand dollars of assessed value. That amounts to about $232 a year on a property assessed at $100,000.

The measure needs 60% approval to pass.
