(Des Moines)--Swimming is not recommended at two beaches in the Iowa Great Lakes area during the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to the latest weekly beach monitoring report from the Iowa DNR.
Both of the beaches are located on Big Spirit Lake.
The DNR says Crandall’s Beach is listed as vulnerable due to exceeding the single-sample limit for E. coli. Marble Beach is classified as less vulnerable due to exceeding the safety thresholds for algal toxins.
All other monitored beaches in the Iowa Great Lakes were listed as OK for swimming, including Ainsworth Beach, Triboji Beach, Pikes Point, Gull Point and Emmerson Bay.
